Cycling is a passion in France!
Our part of the Ardeche is a favourite with cyclists, both locally and from afar. There are many ways to enjoy cycling here (for ideas, see the tourist office pages).
The challenge of the ascent from the Rhone valley (Grand Pont 150m to Chateau Chavagnac 400m) is followed by the undulating hills on the way to Saint Felicien and beyond.
Every year in June, Saint Felicien is the starting place for the largest amateur cycle race in France, the Ardechoise (see online for more information and routes).
The abundant network of forest and woodland paths (see walking in the Ardeche verte) is also used for mountain biking. Locally organised VTT races take place frequently and many popular VTT routes are now permanently marked.
For those that prefer a gentler enjoyment of cycling, you can follow the Viarhona alongside both sides of the river Rhone (see this site for more information), starting from Saint Jean de Muzols directly below us in the valley.
Bring your own bike or hire bikes very easily for the whole family at Intersport in Tournon.
Most years the Tour de France also passes nearby – see my selection of photos from recent years below.
